What's the big deal about 9/11?

yeah, we lost 3000 some people killed and the Twin Towers, but this stuff happens in other countries all the time.

I was asked this question today.    I was so flabbergasted that I really couldn't come up with a coherent answer at the time beyond, "It was another unprovoked attack by people who want you, and everyone like you to die."

I guess it's one of those things that if you have to explain it to someone, they will never understand.

It's like December 7, 1941.    That was a day when MOST of the American people discovered that we couldn't sit with our heads in the sand and ignore the world outside our own borders.    That, in order for us to be safe, we had to be willing to destroy anyone who thought that America and Americans had no right to exist.

That is what September 11th means to me, and to many of my friends.

But some just don't understand that.    They talk about being tired of the war, that we need to bring the troops home, screw Iraq and the Iraqi people, fuck the Afghanis, let Israel go to Hell, no matter that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where ALL of her citizens have a voice, where discrimination is  not tolerated.

But don't confuse those who want to roll over and bare their bellies to some savage whos word is completely meaningless.    They think that if we can just "understand the just demands of the poor oppressed jihadis", everything will be sunlight and cookies.   Fools.     This is dealing with a rabid skunk.     Either you shoot him, or he bites you and maybe kills you.    Either way, you are not in for a good time.

But it has to be done.
